This week the 1st & 2nd graders will continue their studies into Chapter 15. Please review last week's Newsletter for an overview and ways to bring the conversation home!
This week, as the 1st & 2nd Graders prepare for their 1st Communion, they discussed Jesus's real presence in the Eucharist as well as the importance of fasting before the Eucharist.
Please review this week's weekly newsletter to see important reminders as we prepare for this beautiful sacrament!
Students reviewed the meaning of the Holy Eucharist and practiced how to properly receive Holy Communion as they prepare for their First Communion. They also discussed the Eucharistic fast and the importance of going to Confession beforehand so they can receive Jesus with prepared hearts.
For other important dates and reminders, please review the weekly PSR Newsletter.
The 1st and 2nd graders continued their preparation for First Communion. This weekend, they had the opportunity to taste unconsecrated hosts and wine so they can feel more comfortable and prepared when receiving for the first time.
Today is a big and beautiful day—several of our PSR students will receive their First Holy Communion! What a blessing for these children and their families. While there is no formal lesson to share this week, students will likely be doing a walkthrough in preparation. I encourage families to take time to celebrate this special moment with prayer and joy.
This week, we celebrated our First Communicants and took time to reflect on their special day. Students reviewed the meaning of the Eucharist, shared their experiences, and were encouraged to continue approaching Jesus with love and reverence.
Weekly Lessons 3-4 Graders
Third and fourth grade will continue working through Chapter 8, as we were unable to move forward due to low attendance last week. Parents are asked to attend the meeting following the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, February 22nd, to discuss attendance and the importance of consistent participation in PSR.
This week, we learned that all Catholics are members of the Body of Christ and that, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we continue Jesus’ work by using our gifts and talents to serve God and others.
To bring the conversation home, please review this week’s newsletter.
This chapter teaches that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, and that the Church gathers at Mass to receive Him in Holy Communion. Students learn that we prepare our hearts to receive Jesus reverently and grow closer to Him through the gift of the Eucharist.
Please review the weekly Faith + Family page to have a discussion at home or you can check out the at-home lesson plans for Chapter 9
Third graders learned that the Church is the community of all baptized believers who follow Jesus and share in His mission. They explored how God calls each of us to serve Him through our vocation and to live as disciples by trusting God, praying, and reaching out to others.

This week’s lesson focused on how Jesus calls us to love and serve others, especially by showing kindness, forgiveness, and compassion in our daily lives. Students learned that following Christ means putting love into action and choosing what is right, even when it is difficult.
For ways to bring the discussion home check out this week's newsletter or at home lesson.
This week, our third and fourth grade student joined the junior high classroom while their teacher was away. Together, they explored Chapter 15 of the Alive in Christ textbook, focusing on virtue and vice. Students discussed how virtues help us grow closer to God, while vices can pull us away, and how prayer keeps us connected to Him in the midst of daily challenges. It was a thoughtful and engaging conversation about making good choices and relying on God’s grace in our everyday lives.
This week, students learned about the Church and its mission to share the Good News of Jesus. We also dove into Eucharistic and saint miracles, connecting their love of superheroes to the real-life heroes of our faith.

Weekly Lessons 5-6 Graders
This week, students reflected on Jesus’ 40 days in the desert and how His victory over temptation reveals the true meaning of Lent—prayer, fasting, and reliance on the Holy Spirit in spiritual battle. To continue the discussion at home, watch this short video the goal of Lent.
Or consider doing something as a family this Lent. Catholic Icing is an awesome website full of Catholic crafts and ideas of what families can do to make Lent meaningful. It's not too late to add more meaning this Lent!
The class studied Abraham’s covenant with God, including his meeting with Melchizedek and the story of Abraham and Isaac. We also looked at how this event foreshadows Christ’s sacrifice and how many of these biblical moments occurred in the same region where key events of Jesus’ life later took place.
To bring the lesson home, please watch this short video together showing some of the places where these biblical events took place—sites that later became part of the story of Jesus and the salvation of the world.
Class Summary:
Students explored the history and tensions between Jews and Samaritans to understand why Jesus speaking with the Samaritan woman in John 4 was so significant. The lesson showed how Jesus breaks through divisions and invites everyone into true worship and faith.
Video:
Students also watched a short Catholic reflection from the Capuchin Friars, which connects well with both Father’s homily and the themes discussed in class.

Fifth and sixth grade spent time discussing the Gospel message about spiritual blindness and how we are called to open our eyes to the truth in our lives and grow closer to God. They also talked about Lent and Laetare Sunday, noticing the rose vestments and flowers in the church as a reminder that we are halfway through Lent and reflecting on how their Lenten sacrifices are helping them grow in faith.
The class also played Catholic Jeopardy, reviewing topics such as the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments, the Liturgy, the Apostles’ Creed, and important people in the Bible. The game encouraged students to think critically about their faith, sometimes answering from memory and other times using their workbooks or the Catechism to look up answers and learn more in depth.
Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead after four days in the tomb, showing that He has power even over death. This miracle reveals that no one is too far gone for Jesus to bring back to life—physically and spiritually—and points to His own Resurrection.
Why do you think Jesus waited before going to Lazarus instead of going right away? When Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life,” what do you think He means?
This week, 5th and 6th grade reflected on the mystery of Holy Saturday, learning how Jesus descended to free Adam, Eve, and all who had died, showing His victory over sin and death. They also explored the apostles’ initial unbelief after the Resurrection and how we can relate to their doubts in our own faith journey. The lesson emphasized that we are uniquely created by God with a soul and the ability to love, and it introduced different forms of love (agape, filial, and eros). Students also learned about the deeper meaning behind “peace be with you” at Mass and the difference between true spiritual experiences and misleading ones.
This week, students practiced proclaiming Scripture with Deacon Chet using a reading from the Acts of the Apostles. They worked on skills like projecting their voice, pausing at punctuation, and reading with clarity and confidence as lectors. To close, they explored Andrei Rublev’s Icon of the Holy Trinity, learning how sacred art teaches us about God. Through discussion and prayer, students reflected on the mystery of the Trinity and were reminded of the rich spiritual resources the Church offers—especially through the wisdom of the saints.
Weekly Lessons 7-8 Graders
This week, the confirmation class explored how God calls us to use our free will to choose what is good and how Jesus, our Mediator, brings us salvation through faith and Baptism. They also reflected on what it means for the Church to be catholic and how prayer strengthens our communion with God.
This week, students learned about grace and how it strengthens our relationship with God, keeping us spiritually “tethered” to Him. We discussed the difference between venial and mortal sin, and how our choices can either deepen that relationship or damage it.
For more information and ways to bring the discussion home, please review the Newsletter!
This lesson explores how sin and unhealthy habits can weigh down our spiritual lives and weaken our relationships with God and others. Through discussion, Scripture, and reflection, students learn that self-control and “dying to self” during Lent help free us from those burdens so we can grow stronger in faith.
Check out our weekly Newsletter to bring the discussion home!
Students studied the Sacred Triduum, reflecting on the biblical events of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. By reading the Gospel accounts of Christ’s Passion and Resurrection, they explored the timeline of Holy Week and the depth of Jesus’ sacrifice for our salvation.
This week in Confirmation Prep, we explored the Annunciation, celebrated on March 25, when Mary gave her “yes” to God and trusted fully in His plan.
This week, students explored Chapter 15 of the Alive in Christ textbook, focusing on virtue and vice. Through discussion and activities, we talked about how virtues help us grow closer to God, while vices can pull us away, and how prayer keeps us connected to Him even in the midst of challenges and temptation. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own habits and how God’s grace helps us choose what is good. If you’d like to continue the conversation at home, we invite you to review Chapter 15 together.
This week, students focused on their preparation for Confirmation and what it means to live out their faith with intention. We talked about how the Holy Spirit strengthens us to be witnesses of Christ in our daily lives.
